When it comes to hard throwing pitchers, Nolan Ryan is probably the first name that comes to mind. Ryan, popularly known as "The Ryan Express" pitched for an amazing 27 seasons, threw an equally amazing seven no hitters (next closest pitcher has four), and struck out a mind-boggling 5,714 batters! Mr. Ryan was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999, alongside batting greats George Brett and Robin Yount.
Just as fans loved watching him pitch, baseball card collectors love Nolan Ryan cards. His 1968 Topps rookie card is considered one of the cornerstones to many vintage collections and was chosen by PSA for their Top 250 cards in the hobby. While Nolan Ryan's rookie card can command prices above $1,000, most of his other cards are surprisingly affordable for the average collector, even his early 70's Topps cards. This makes Nolan a good target to start a player collection. The downside is that a complete Nolan Ryan player collection has over 10,000 cards in it!
